Chicago Public Library Celebrating DiversityJoin CPL in November in exploring the Native American experience during our third annual observance of Native American Heritage Month.

Our opening event is 1 p.m. Saturday, November 5 at Uptown Branch. It features exciting presentations by Native American Chicagoans, including the Red Line Drum and Dancers performing traditional music and dance and the Chi-Nations Youth Council presenting on the Standing Rock occupation and how Dakota access affects Natives in Chicago.

Upcoming Events

Try something new at these events offered at several CPL locations:

  • Archery for Beginners: Learn from Michael Garcia, a certified archery coach with the Olympic Committee's USA Archery program.
  • Hip-Hop Beats: Spirit Animal T-Shirt Transfer: Teens, take an audiovisual tour of indigenous people's experiences and use the visual style to create your own T-shirt transfer.
  • God's Eyes: Kids, weave your own god's eye in this event with Lisa Bernal. A god's eye is a traditionally spiritual object among many indigenous peoples of the Americas.
